Fem-Powering Success: Celebrating Women in Business during Women’s Small Business Month

October is not just the season of changing leaves and pumpkin spice; it’s also Women’s Small Business Month. This month gives us a chance to celebrate the undeniable impact and resilience of women in the business world. In honor of Women’s Small Business Month, we come together to applaud the remarkable achievements of female entrepreneurs. This month isn’t just about recognizing the success of one company; it’s about the collective power and influence of women-owned businesses.

At Pluie, we’re proud to be part of this incredible community of female-led businesses, working tirelessly to make the world a better place for families. In this article, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Women’s Small Business Month, highlight some honorary mentions of other small companies founded by inspiring women, and share the story of Pluie and its founders.

The Journey of Women in Business

The journey of women in business has come a long way over the years. In 1972, there were just over 400,000 women-owned businesses in the United States. The road to entrepreneurship was often fraught with obstacles, including the need for a male relative to co-sign business loans. However, in 1988, the Women’s Business Ownership Act marked a significant turning point by increasing access to capital for women-owned small businesses. This Act increased access to capital for women-owned small businesses. Since then, women have not only thrived but have become a driving force in the business world.

Fast forward to today, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, women-owned businesses represent 42% of all U.S. businesses and generate an astonishing $1.9 trillion worth of revenue. There are now over 13 million women-owned businesses and counting. Every October, the Small Business Administration (SBA) pays tribute to these groundbreaking entrepreneurs, highlighting their accomplishments and contributions to the business world.

The Power of Women-Led Ventures

Pluie: Women Owned & Operated

Pluie, founded by Addie Gundry and Brittany Hizer, is a shining example of women in business making a difference. Our brand promise is to use innovative technology and beautiful design to create the cleanest, most comfortable, and convenient baby products on the market. We are dedicated to advocating for parents and caregivers, whether they’re at home or on-the-go.

The story behind Pluie began with a challenging diaper-changing experience in a public restroom. Addie Gundry, while out to lunch with her 10-month-old son in 2018, faced the dreaded diaper blowout. Frustrated by the lack of clean and comfortable changing facilities, she decided to take matters into her own hands. In 2020, she joined forces with Co-Founder Brittany Hizer, and together, they launched Pluie with a mission to #changethetable.

Today, Pluie Diaper Changing Tables can be found in public restrooms across 32 states, providing parents and caregivers with a cleaner, more comfortable, and convenient diaper-changing experience. Additionally, Pluie recently introduced the Pluie Pret Changing Clutch, offering a portable solution for parents on-the-go.
