You’ve seen the headlines:
- TIME names Pluie a Best Invention of 2021
- Fast Company includes Pluie in its 2021 list of World Changing Ideas
- Inc. Magazine names Addie Gundry to its prestigious Female Founders 100 list
So why all the attention? While there are several first-to-market features that make Pluie so innovative and deserving of these accolades, one breakthrough stands out above the others: our patented UV-C light sanitization system. This first major design disruption in the changing table’s nearly 40-year history is finally putting a spotlight on what families deserve when out in public with their little ones.
Pluie is the world’s first and ONLY self-sanitizing diaper changing table for public restrooms. With parents, caregivers, and facilities more concerned about safety and cleanliness than ever before, we’re proud to offer a solution that provides peace of mind for facilities and their guests.
Positioned behind a child protection panel and only activated when the table is closed and not in use, our UV-C lights sanitize the plush foam changing surface after each use in just 60 seconds. Cleaner, safer, and more convenient – without relying on unreliable cleaning schedules or harsh chemicals.
What is UV-C Light?
UV-C light is an ultraviolet light with a wavelength that is germicidal – i.e., it deactivates the DNA of 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens including influenza, E. Coli, and coronavirus, destroying their ability to multiply and cause disease. Pluie uses 254 nanometer UV-C lights which triggers a photochemical reaction ideal for eradicating germs. UV-C light is widely used today in hospitals to sterilize patient room surfaces. Business Insider shared, “UV-C light is one of 4 different wavelengths of ultraviolet light. UV-C has the shortest wavelength and is the most powerful at killing viruses and bacteria. The ozone layer does not allow UV-C light to reach the earth’s surface. Therefore, organisms have never been exposed to this form of UV light and they have no resistance to it. That is why they quickly die when exposed to artificial UV-C light sources.”
How does Pluie’s UV-C light system work?
When the table is closed after use, the UV-C light system is triggered to turn on automatically. The sanitization cycle lasts for 60 seconds and then automatically shuts off. Within 60 seconds, Pluie’s plush foam surface is sanitized and ready for the next baby.
Will anyone be exposed to UV-C light?
No, the child-safe UV-C light automatically shuts off as soon as the sanitization cycle is complete and any time the changing table is opened. A vivid blue indicator LED light turns on to clearly indicate when the sanitization cycle is in process. Our product has been tested by a global third-party testing and certification company to ensure it meets all performance and safety specifications for children’s products and UV-C light products. The photobiological exposure test concluded that Pluie exerts zero light to consumers. Pluie also meets ASTM, CPSIA, and FCC requirements and is ADA compliant.
How long does the UV-C light system last and is maintenance required?
Pluie’s UV-C bulbs last 8,000 hours and our sanitization cycle is only 1 minute. Pluie is protected and supported by a 5 year warranty program and there is no maintenance required for the bulbs.
Pluie is a proud member of the International Ultraviolet Association.
